Definition and Examples of Helping Verbs in English

Definition and Examples of Helping Verbs in English Helping verbs that add meaning to the clause where they are being used are called auxiliary verbs. This usage is so common that the terms helping verb and auxiliary verb are often used interchangeably. This type of helping verb is used to express tense or add emphasis.

Q1- Kinds of The Verb (क्रिया के प्रकार)

वाक्यों में प्रयोग के आधार पर Verbs को दो वर्गों में बाँटा गया है –

Main Verb (प्रधान क्रिया)

Helping Verb / Auxiliary Verb (सहायक क्रिया)

1.Main Verb (प्रधान क्रिया)

जो क्रिया किसी वाक्य में अकेले या सहायक क्रिया के साथ आती है, वह प्रधान क्रिया कहलाती है।

The verbs used alone or together with helping verbs are called main verbs.

इन वाक्यों में Bold अक्षरों में शब्द Main Verbs हैं –

(a) I am a boy.

(b) I am reading

(d) He will do it.

Q2.Helping Verb / Auxiliary Verb (सहायक क्रिया)

जो क्रिया tense, voice, mood इत्यादि के निर्माण में प्रधान क्रिया (Main Verb) की सहायता करती है, वह Helping Verb कहलाती है।

A helping verb is one which helps the main verb to form a tense, voice, mood, etc.

इन वाक्यों में Bold अक्षरों में शब्द Helping Verb हैं –

(a) I am reading.

(b) My brother has come.

(d) You should do this.

मुख्य Helping verbs निम्नलिखित हैं –

am, is, are, was, were, do, does, did, have, has, had, shall, will, can, could, may, might, must, ought, should, would, need, dare, used to.

इन Auxiliary Verbs am, is, are, was, were, have, has, had, do, does, did, need और dare ऐसे Verbs हैं जो Main Verb की तरह प्रयुक्त होते हैं तो कभी Helping Verb की तरह ।

जैसे –

(a) He is ready. (is-main verb)

(b) He is going. (is helping verb)

(d) He did this. (did-main verb)

Note 1 – यदि किसी वाक्य में एक ही क्रिया हो, तो वह क्रिया Main Verb कहलाएगी।

जैसे –

(a) I have a dog. (have-main verb)

(b) He is a boy. (is-main verb)

Note 2 – यदि किसी वाक्य में दो या दो से अधिक Verbs एक साथ प्रयुक्त हों, तो सबसे अंत में आनेवाला verb Main Verb कहलाएगा और अन्य verbs Helping Verbs कहलाएँगे।

जैसे –

(a) I have been reading.

(have-helping verb, been-helping verb, reading main verb)

(b) I have been a teacher. (have-helping verb, been-main verb)

TRANSITIVE & INTRANSITIVE VERBS

Main Verb को दो भागों में बाँटा गया है –

Transitive Verb (सकर्मक क्रिया)

Intransitive Verb (अकर्मक क्रिया )

Transitive Verb (सकर्मक क्रिया)

जिस क्रिया के बाद कर्म (object) का प्रयोग हुआ हो, उस क्रिया को Transitive Verb कहेंगे ।

The verb used with an object is called a transitive verb.

इन वाक्योंको देखें –

Ram eats rice.

I love you.

He has helped my brother.

I know this.

My brother has read the book.

I like these beautiful flowers.

rice, you, my brother, this, the book of these beautiful flowers Objects (कर्म) हैं। अतः इनके पहले प्रयुक्त Verbs eats, love, helped, know, read of like Transitive Verb कहेंगे |

Intransitive Verb (अकर्मक क्रिया )

जिस क्रिया के बाद कर्म (object) का प्रयोग नहीं हुआ हो, उस क्रिया को Intransitive Verb कहेंगे।

The verb used without an object is called an intransitive verb.

इन वाक्यों को देखें –

I eat.

I go to school.

Ram walks in the field.

I sleep.

He gets up at five o’clock.

He ran fast.

इन वाक्यों में कोई कर्म (object) नहीं है। अतः प्रयुक्त Verbs eat, go, walks, sleep, gets up और ran Intransitive Verbs कहलाएँगे।.

सकर्मक क्रिया – Transitive Verb

ऐसी मुख्य क्रिया जो अपने अर्थ को स्पष्ट करने के लिए केवल एक या एक से अधिक Object का Use करती है साथ ही Helping Verb का Use भी होता है सकर्मक क्रिया कहलाती है

Exa.

1- वह स्कूल जाता है

Ans- He goes to school

He – Subject

Goes – Transitive Verb

School – Object

Q2- मैं आप सभी के साथ भोपाल जाने वाला हूं

Ans- I am going to Bhopal with all of you.

I – Subject

Am – Helping Verb

Go – Main verb (Transitive verb)

Bhopal- Object

All of You – Object

अकर्मक क्रिया – Intransitive Verb

अकर्मक क्रिया देख लिया कहलाती है जिसमें वाक्य को पूरा करने के लिए Object की आवश्यकता नहीं होती इसमें केवल Subject और Main Verb ही होता है

Example –

1- वह खाता है

Ans- He eats

2- वह गया

Ans- He goes

He – Subject

Goes – Main Verb (Intransitive verb)
